Expanded radon services across the Upstate
Peerless Environmental is expanding its radon testing and radon mitigation services across Upstate South Carolina in response to research on the health risks of residential radon exposure.
Radon is a colorless, odorless radioactive gas produced by the decay of uranium in soil and rock. It enters buildings through foundation cracks, sump openings, and gaps around service pipes, and it can accumulate to elevated concentrations indoors without any sensory warning.
The research behind the expansion
Research from the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health reported an association between household radon levels and increased risk of stroke among older women. That work adds a cardiovascular dimension to a risk profile already well established for lung cancer, where radon is recognized by the EPA as the second leading cause in the United States after smoking.

What radon service involves
Peerless Environmental provides short-term and long-term radon measurement, real estate radon testing, mitigation system design and installation, and post-mitigation verification testing.
Mitigation most often uses sub-slab depressurization, which draws soil gas from beneath the foundation and vents it above the roofline before it can enter the living space.
